Ninja Theory, I am dissapoint.
me too.. I still am :(
Honestly, Its a good and bad thing.
Sure he looks retard and emo.
Honestly, If this was a prequel in an alternate universe I wouldn't care. See, if they simply improved/changed his character design drastically and the combat is a DMC/GoW hybrid I could care less oh, as long they ditch the location. Its one thing to be nostalgic and another thing to be stuck in the past which I'm getting that vibe.
So honestly, for all we know its just an alternate version of the series, it could be awesome or utter crap. Its definitely not DMC 5, as in the trailer all it said was DMC. So honestly, with the 'real' Dante appearing in the new Marvel vs. Capcom game, people will honestly probably realize that the new game is /possible/ garbage and not buy it because the 'real' Dante as you know is badass, unlike the the new emo punk junkie we are getting.
it definitely seems to be what you think it will be...
they said something like a reinvisionment, a reboot.. kinda like what they did with the new silent hill game on the wii.
i'm still not happy with what happened, but i'm smart enough to know they're not gonna change it because they've said several times now it's connected to the plot and they want it to be relevant in today's fashion and whatnot..
but... to be honest, this will probably be the first dmc game i wont buy. especially if the gameplay doesnt hold up, which I think it wont..
yes everything you have written about it is exactly what i said when i saw the trailer. This is a big slap in the face to all devil may cry fans.
and to think they're expecting this to be a super hit.. >_>
It'll be okay; there has to be a perfectly good explanation for all of this, right?..... RIGHT!?
::Hyperventilates Uncontrollably:: WWWHHHHYYYYYYYYYY!?!?!?!?
only one
$
Oh God.
Why must they always slaughter games that I love?....
Stupid Twilight is corrupting everything. I miss the classic vampires that didn't sparkle and you could kill with a stake/holy water, etc.
But in the first place, vampires in DMC? No. Just....No.
I feel your pain. :(
I wouldn't blame it on twilight... it's just easy (and sorta funny) to make that connection.
and well... pain shared is pain lessened i guess ;o
mmmm im sure thats not dante , they cant change dante and his personality thats the soul of the game , that emo kid probably is going to be a new character , im sure , or its a remake of devil may cry in other universe maybe , im sad devil may cry 1 changed my life thats one of the best games ive ever played and the music is exelent , devil may cy 3 was also good and dmc 4 was ok , i liked the old silent dante haha , well maybe campcom is giving us a surprise so dont be sad NT !!! cheer up !
OH SHIT , NOW THAT I SEE THE TRAILER .... well this is a different universe dmc thake it as that , but im sure everyone will miss the white haired hero , im sure dmc 6 will be the return of dante... the son of sparda not a twilight faggot XD
I thought it was a different universe too... but now they've changed their mind and are calling it all things together, re-imagination.. a "reboot in a sense".. and a prequel now. It's been confirmed a reboot before at that, but now they're saying it'll tie in to the story line.
Which, in turn, kinda messes Dante up if he's ever been like that. And in the off-chance we'll see Virgil.. actually, I dont want to think about that. :( they're just constantly contradicting themselves right now.
You know Ms.Theory it might not be a bad thing. Of course this new DMC is a huge difference from the older versions. However i think this game will have to be one of those games that must be played and see for your self to see if its good. I truly hope that It has a good plot from the older versions but of course we must wait and see.
plot has never been the main focus of the games.
you can say goodbye to stuff like this:
http://www.youtube.co m/watch?v=aDjXBZ8ItqU&feature=rel ated
I can almost guarantee you that.
oh btw, I will ofcourse give them the benefit of the doubt now that the initial "wtf" shock has worn off.. (i'm still not happy though), but if the gameplay is changed too much to "appeal to westerners" then I'm gonna evaporate into some hate!
Nooooo! I've never played, but I've seen the cutscenes, heard the music. When I have problems I can say "It's okay because Dante's still awesome." But now they're killing it! I thought the unofficial "DMC 5" remixes surviving meant there wouldn't be a real five, but if there was I assumed I would look forward to it.
Rest in- OH WAIT. They won't let it!
There's still a lot they've got left to show to convince fans it's still devil may cry, so I'm still patiently waiting...
but from what I've seen in terms of overall tone of atmosphere, they completely missed -that- mark. gameplay, that I dont know yet.. but considering Inafune-san's complete dislike for japanese games right now, I can only imagine the gameplay will be like some certain bald guy with a temper.
A absolutely agree. Whats more, check this out. It is just sad. "It's about Dante being cool and making you feel cool when you're playing it, and so the combat and the style system and everything is integral to that. But, you know, what was cool 12 years ago -- I think that was when the first game came out [Editor's Note: he's a bit off, as the first title came out in 2001] -- isn't cool anymore. If Dante, dressed as he was, walked into any bar outside of Tokyo, he'd get laughed out. What Devil May Cry did when it launched was it brought everything that was great about action cinema like the fashion, music -- it was like a cultural melting pot -- and I feel like now, for Devil May Cry to have that same impact, it needs to draw on new things. New music, new ways of cinematography, new fashion." (This is the lead developer on Ninja Theory talking.) :( This guy thinks he can just say what's cool, can he. Stay hopeful, Dante may be dead, but the game isn't.
It's not like this new Dante could walk out of a bar outside Tokyo and wouldn't be laughed out.
Actually, I may be wrong. They may rush him to the nearest hospital and hook him up with some IV to flush out all the drugs in his system. XD
I never played any of the series, but from the youtube videos, I think I might like to start playing the series soon...any word on some new music from you, ma'am?
start with DMC1! next to 3, it's the best one and also the hardest one. =]
And soon! I can't release as much as I used to anymore (looking at my 2010 list makes me cry... only two compared to 2008's 12? crazy!) but I'll try to turn that around fast!
It's a young Dante yes. It might not be -the- Dante. I think it's a clone. Which explains why he's in a psyche ward. Also would explain why he has a "Subject Number" and that means that -our- Dante might show up at some point. And save the game.
that would be 12 kinds of crazy I think. I read this other theory about how the dude stuck in the prison is virgil and the one outside is dante and they're feeling pains because they're twins etc.
I dunno. we're gonna have to wait for something more to see what's happening... but so far they've gone back on it being a reboot and now it will be placed within the series' continuity.. oh joy. >__>
but let's hope he does show up! XD
Same here this Dante is not the Dante I remember since the first devil may cry and this is abomination.
it's a huge far cry from what he used to be that's for sure!
If it doesn't follow the regular storyline I wonder if Vergil will be in it... I like Vergil way better than Dante. I was disappointed he wasn't in Devil May Cry 4 at all.
I am gonna say this guy is either imitating Dante, or it really is a Dante before Devil May Cry 3.
This might not be Dante at all. Besides the part where this guy smashes into the ground and the sword he uses, this guys seems pretty normal. No Devil Trigger shown, but then again if this is a prequel before DMC 3 he won't have 1 at all in this game. The weapons he does use like that weird sword just might be giving him temporary strength. He smokes, but if this is before DMC3 then it might him smoking then and quitting later. Also he could be like Lady just be really skilled with weapons which gives him the illusion of super human. Look at the movie "The Watchmen". Only Mr. Manhattan had powers, but the others had the illusion of super human strength.
This however could be the real Dante however before DMC3. This could be the game where he meets Vergil, after thinking he was dead at like the age of 7. He isn't using Rebellion, this might be the game where he gets it. It might change his physical appearance to the Dante everyone loves.
i said this before a few comments up but I read a theory about that the guy in the prison cell is Vergil and the guy outside is Dante. it kinda makes sense when you think about it, but it doesnt seem very likely. :p
also dante said he never smoked... I guess that may be the first retcon of many, no? :P
But yeah, if that all pans out like you say then that'll be the biggest metamorphosis in the history of gaming I think. even chris redfield's roids wont compare. XD
This isn't Devil May Cry 5, yes its not the same Devil May Cry we love and want, but Devil May Cry 5 is in the works this is just a separate disappointment, and I'll give it a chance, if the combat is still the same anyway
it all rides on the combat.. but given inafune's dislike for jpn games lately, expect god of war type gameplay. mashy mashy!
Hideki (the creator of Devil May Cry) left Capcom and went to Sega. Capcom owns the franchise, but Hideki owns the art and characters etc. That's why Capcom could have never created another Devil May Cry, due to Hideki's absence.
That's why Hideki made Bayonetta, to recreate a great series like Devil May Cry. Bayonetta wasn't too bad, but it definitely wasn't close to Devil May Cry. I think, if a reboot was going to EVER be done, it should of been by Hideki with Sega; it would have been legally viable as well being named DMC, and all the characters and art could have been in there. But no, Hideki is such a fucking douchebag, he comes out saying that he hates Capcom and Devil May Cry, and says that "Bayonetta could kick Dante's ass anyday." So really, it's all Hideki's fault for being such an emo.
He shows no passion for his brilliant work, what a waste.
This game better have the best gameplay to ever exist, or my respect for the Devil May Cry series will just drop.
And I liked Devil May Cry 4 too, it wasn't bad ^^
DMC3 was the best though, hands down ;p
Hideki made Platinum Games with ex-capcom employees in 2007. Devil May Cry 4 came out in 2008, so that can't be right.
But as it stands... Bayonetta is pretty much all we're getting in terms of stylish action games for now, unless Ninja Theory manages to make something great... and after playing the enslaved demo, i'm still not convinced they can make deep (DMC deep) combat systems. ;/
And heck yes for DMC3! I still play that every now and then, even after SSS-ranking all missions on DMD. XDD
You should check out a Japanese PC game called Blood Over, which a lot of people call a 2D-DMC. That along with RosenkreuzStilette, a Megaman-clone with Germanic/gothic overtones. At least Monster Hunter Tri kicks ass...
Those games do seem really cool!
And I've played a lot of Monster Hunter Tri recently... it's way too addictive/dangerous for me right now XD
I totally agree with you, that pretty much sums it : DMC is dead. I was listening to an interview with the developers saying the old Dante wasn't an image of today's "coolness". Huh? so a thin emo-looking freak with an ugly morphing weapon is gonna replace him? Bullshit.
At least DMC4 did feel like a true DMC game and I did like Nero. I know it's the point of a reboot to change nearly everything, but with no style and badassry (if that can be said), this game is not Devil May Cry for me.
Although I gotta admit, the combat gameplay (from the trailer) seems to be great, and that's the most important I guess.
I agree with you a 100%... that statement was really weird and inaccurate... it's like they are saying emo kids that looked drugged up and smoke while hanging from a gargoyle are totally cool in this day and age. :/
And it really did! DMC4 was pretty great, it still kept a lot of the things that made DMC3 work while still giving it it's own spin... I still remember the days where I played the demo for it nonstop... it's sad knowing that's not gonna happen anymore, unless DMC5 still comes out in the future.
also the combat were just movies, not actual gameplay I think. i'll reserve saying anything about that until I see someone actually playing it or controlling dante but i'm gonna scream if it involves whip chains and area of effect attacks... you know what I mean >.<
I know how you feel, but hell, who knows how the game will turn out. Many of the game review critics are giving it mixed reviews. Actually, one website said that it could be someone else who thinks he's Dante...
However, if it turns out to be the real Dante, then I will head over to Capcom and strangle everyone of them myself....
hey hey hey, when you go to capcom HQ and begin strangulation.. be sure to let me know so I can come with you!
i have access to piano wires you see... XD
Froodjakle
Yeah.. Honestly, if Capcom and/or Ninja Theory is paying ANY attention to the people, AT ALL, they'll realize they made a huge mistake. Almost NOBODY wants this, I haven't seen more than 1 or 2 people happy with this change yet, and if there ARE any others who like it they're few and far between. I know they're changing it up for a western audience, to try and get better sales, but at the rate it's going, they'll probably sell worse than ever, unless there's some SERIOUS difference between the trailer and the final product.
As you mentioned before, if they go ahead with the release of this, there are two ways it can go: Sales bomb and Capcom drops the Devil May Cry series forever. Why would they try and continue it after it fails miserably? Or, the game sells really well, and the Devil May Cry we know and love is gone forever, and replaced with this.. emo, smoking, completely backasswards trash.
The only way I can see Capcom fixing this is if they completely drop the project. And unless they're paying attention to the people, I don't see that happening any time soon.
NemesisTheory
well today I learned it was 99% capcom's mistake because they pressured the development team into making it "drastically different" in order to appeal to more western audiences...
dmc4 sold like 2.7 million, but capcom are apparently getting greedy and want 5+ million copies sold.
to add to that... neither ninja gaiden or bayonetta, alone or combined, even touched 2.7 million sold so I dunno what the problem is. :(
