Oh my, Final Fantasy...

Posted by NemesisTheory - September 20th, 2007

Oh, Harro! Going to try this thing out.

So, what do I have to say. Lately I've been returning to my decadent dormant Final Fantasy VII fanboy state. With my shiny PS3 in hand(s), I can finally play PS1 games again because my PS2 for some odd reason couldn't handle them anymore. Either they ran all sloppy or wouldn't start at all period.

So, booting that 'ol badboy up again after like, 7 years, I can still remember this 12-13 year old kid being blown away by this game every second of the way. I guess it's a good time to like FF VII again since SquareEnix are doing their little milkey-business again, and are going to do it for ten years as they've stated. I wouldn't mind it if they, now, kept up the quality they've seemed to reach with Crisis Core. That game is really good! I just really hope they can keep that quality up and not go back to the Dirge of Cerberus type of stuff. That wasn't very impressive. Anyway, this time around, I'm gonna take my time getting all the ultimate weapons and try to beat the weapons. I never got around to doing that. Definitely looking forward to that.

All this Final Fantasy VII stuff has given me some inspiration to work with also, as I've just (yesterday) finished my version of the Fighting theme, which I hope you'll all enjoy. I didn't try to deviate from the formula as much as would've liked, because in the end, I didn't really want to ruin the mood the original created.

I'm contemplating on how I should approach the Shinra Company theme, which is what I'm toying around with right now. The original, I felt, really is epic and I think anything I'd change from that formula would drastically remove it's raw epicness, if that makes sense. So I might just make a type of 'tribute' and just put it in brand new coating, in my own style, but not as fast as Fight 2007. Still some thinking to be done about that, anyway, before I put it down and get to work. Comments on this subject are really welcome (!).

As for anything else, I'm glued to my screen about this rumerous Endless Crisis: Final Fantasy VII for the PS3. Something tells me it's not the remake most of us have been waiting for, it seems too early for that, but I definitely wouldn't mind it. And what with the (big) rumor that Sony is funding the entire project, it has to be something good; remake or not. What did famitsu say again, "The game that will save the PS3?" stop with the hinting, already. :)

Oh, and definitely check out the TGS '07 trailer of Metal Gear Solid 4.
That game just gets sicker by the minute.

Indeed, FF V is not like anyother FF game (or maybe FFX, that 1 was very good :D)
And the new Final Fantasy (12) is a huge bummer i think. I bought it .. waste of money :/

I know what you mean about FFXII, at first it seemed really good with the new setup and the AI battling alongside you, but eventually after you had to get some crystals it fell apart on me. I haven't touched it since for some reason.

I'm sure somewhere it's a really great game but a Final Fantasy hasn't drawn me in like it used to since X (unless you count Crisis Core), which I also think is a really good Final Fantasy.

Yeah I know, I started re-playing FFVII a while back too at my friends house, and quite ironically, when I finally asked him if I can borrow it, he "lost" it. And final fantasy VII isnt exactly the easiest game to get your hands on now-a-days..

Funny how that works, how people can suddenly "lose" something.

Here, at least, you can still order it off of a site but sadly no deliveries outside of Europe. But I'm sure some stores should still be selling it, I mean this is Holland, and we're not exactly #1 on the gaming hotspot list. :P

I hope you do find it man, once you start replaying this game it feels like you're on crack. Can't stop. :P

<3 Final Fantasy VII!! I still remember the first time I played it... Those were good times... Just last year I started re-playing it... But it pissed my brother off because I was always on the PS2... and suddenly... All of my saved data was 'mysteriously' erased... I just kinda gave up on it after that...

I hear that more often than I probably should. People always seem to get their FF VII savedata wiped out. What's up with that? It's one of those games you're definitely going to need to put some investment of time into (Materia much?!), and these things just keep happening.

It's like the people who erase those saves have no idea what they're doing. Maybe they do, but I doubt they'd like it if we secretly killed off their WoW characters or something. Goodbye phat lewt!

All I can say is, pick up the controller!
Go play it again. The game needs your 'luv. :3

I personally think is the best game ever, awesome gameplay, awesome, crazy and confusing story, great gfx (for its time) amazing soundtrack, cool characters (and you actually care about them) ... everything is great about FFVII...

Cerberus is cool in its idea, but not that much in the gameplay and crisis core... well... probably i will never play it... since i dont have a PSP and most likely never will... and, on a side note, Advent Children, in my opinion was amazing, but i think that including the whole cast of characters was completely unnecesary but still cool...

i dont know about the ps3 game (game?), a remake would be really cool, but then again, chances of getting a PS3 are even smaller...

phew, what a response... BTW that fighting theme is amazing, thats exactly what i was expecting in Advent Children instead of the piano version they used... looking forward to hear the Shinra theme...

While I'm not sure if I think it's the best game ever, I do think it's one of the most important games ever created. It really set the bar for 3D RPG's back in 1997, so for that alone I have to respect it, and I do think it's one of the better/best games released on the PSX, along with games like Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil 2.

And thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the remix. :)

Hey NT! I actually don't really care about FF so I'll just skip that xD
I just want to let you know that I really love your (high quality) music!

Paragon! Such a surprise to see you here!
I'm glad you're diggin' the music. :D

En, ofcourse, ff in het NL;

Greets,
-NT.

Nemesis, why don't you, for the SHINRA theme remix, incorporate the Turk's Theme, and reverb/remake the choir so that it's a bit more... high tech than synth voices. Add a piano to the bells for a more "godly" aura. Make it sound like Rufus rather than SHINRA itself.

Nice suggestion. I can try to see how that works!

Thanks. :D
