It's definitely a...

It's definitely a pick-me-up, the note progression really makes sure of that with the overall upbeat nature of the song. You could pretty much draw a smiley in the visualization box to be honest.

I see you're getting hit hard (with 0's) for no reason, but that's what you get when you're on a site with kids that hate anything that's better than what they cram out every day.

Anyway, the song is definitely good. I really would've liked if it a little more variation with the drums (even a second kick after the 8th beat would've worked every once in a while). The same could be said with the melodies, but, that's a lot tougher since melodies are more complex than rhythms in tracks like this. For example you could've shifted everything up a whole note and changed a few notes to redirect the 'flow', or make a few chords to switch things up, but that's easier said than done when you're trying to maintain a feel.

When I spoke of the rhythm, I mean it's a good idea to keep the rhythm fresh after you break it down and build it up (which you've done, breaking it down and back up a few times in the song), but you lead into pretty much the same thing again. That's about the only point(s) of critiscm I can share, the rest is all good.

All in all, I like what you've done here!

D-D-D-D-D-DK!?

This is from Donkey Kong, right? God, that brought back memories. I haven't heard this track in ages, in fact, not since I was a kid with a spankin' SNES. I do miss that SNES.

Anyway, I love the ambient vibe of this track. Piano seems fine to me, it's not too sharp or rough, seems spot on. It may not be 'watery' enough, but you can't really pin yourself for that. Perfection isn't really something you should try to achieve, IMO, takes forever (literally) and it mostly isn't going to happen.

Digging the guitar intro, works well for a switchup. Good choice there, and back to Piano and essentially another loop with some more switchups (I likes!)

I don't have too many complaints for this song. Really well executed. The only thing, maybe, is that the guitar is too sharp. It pierces through most of the other things that's going on in the song, but that may as well be intentional, but that's really the only thing that jumps to mind.

9/10 for you, and a 5/5!

Hey man! thx for the review! I'm glad you like it! btw, the guitar....youre right...it was a lil too sharp. oh well....thx for pointin that out though. ^_^v

Nice!

Ethereal openings for the win. You definitely caught my attention with this. I chose to review this submission instead of your newest one since you said that one was originally older.

So like I said I really enjoyed the opening and re-breakdown and buildup, although it may have taken a bit too long overall, but that's no problem really. The rhytm could've used a little more punch to it IMO, but it's solid enough throughout that it, again, is only a minor gripe I have.

I'm a big fan of pianos in songs like this so to nobody's surprise I think it's obvious I really liked that touch. It was a good changeup, and the first few notes were exactly like a song from FF7 (Shinra), so that caught my ear even more especially because it's probably accidental.

Either way, good work. Could've used a bit more rhythmatic variation, but I won't hold that against you.

5/5, 9/10.

Zawesome.

I like the softtouched intro, always was a fan of that and fast drumrolls for a leadin.

The only points of critique I could come up with, and it isn't much, is that some of the instrument may (depends on the recipient) sound a little too sharp and that there's not a lot of melodic variation. But that's minor really, especially for a Trance song.

All in all, really good work. <3 Voted 5!

Platformer?

I'm not quite sure what the genre of the game is, but listening to this gives me the impression it's a light hearted platformer. If so, I can't really say it doesn't fit, and I'll vote accordingly to that image in my head. :p

That said, 8/10 and 5/5 for good measure. ;D

Crazy chill.

This'd fit right into a game like Metroid if you ask me, one of the icy areas.

Really good job on this one, regardless of it being 2 years old!

Why the big blamming?

This isn't bad or anything, I think the people who blammed it were a little harsh.

Anyway, since you're new at this, I won't go over the obvious faults, I can help you with those (MSN nao :D), but I can definitely at least see a red line throughout.

All you have to do really is just keep trying and develop your melodies into something more flowing and harmonic, but from this alone you can see you have the right idea about what notes work together. And that, is a great start.

Vote 4, 6/10.

Mazrix responds:

To be honest I think the score it currently has is too good. I'm working on a song on my Fruityloops that is already much better than this, but I'm lazy so I don't know if I'll ever finish it.

Thanks for the review though.

You sound like a younger me!

MegaMan mooziek! <3

Above that, your tracks really seem to remind me of a younger me, back in the day. I made the same mistakes you seem to be making at this very moment.

The thing is, it all sounds extremely LOUD. A key into making music sound fluid is by making it balanced, and that is largely accomplished by balancing out the instruments. For instance your main lead is extremely loud and distorts everything else, the rhythm also cuts in with sharp tones to distort a lot of other instruments as well.

I wish I had that one track I made a while ago of MMX (I was into it as well! Did lots of MM remixes) from that bossfight between X and Zero from X5 I believe. A lot of people let me know everything was just way too loud and it was hard to actually listen to the song since your attention is focused and glued to the main lead instrument, as was the case with me anyway.

So here's the tip: Tone the volume down a bit, and you'll notice a drastic improvement as you'll be able to hear the other instruments a lot clearer, which brings a lot more music to the foreground. Elsewise, well, I'd suggest to make a few sections in the remix that belong to you, say, alter the main melody a bit and make it more like a person version that YOU made. Your own badass version of the Spark Mandrill track. I believe I'm running out of space with the review, but, all I can really say is that you're on the right track, just keep the volume under control and when you're up to it, try breaking the habit and do a little personal influence in the track. :)

Best of luck,

Wow, thanks for the advice! I love advice :D

Personally, I don't think this is one of my better projects but your advice really helps, and reading your review has made me consider a lot of improvements for a potential future version.

Thanks abunch! :D

Great effort, yet..

Great effort, yet I feel that a few things could've been better or improved. First off, the music is way too loud, it pretty much distorts everything in the foreground. It's like the pitch on some of your instruments is way too high, which also causes distortion, especially the bass in it's fourth step.

The arpeggio-like synth that comes througn in the second half also distorts quite a bit. The neat trick is to lower the volume of these things quite a bit. They don't have to stand out, since if you put all these things in the foreground they will start to "fight" with eachother, which isn't something you want with music. You want your instruments to, say, live in harmony, not slight chaos (or in some people's cases, chaos period).

If you can work on these few things, you'll start doing much better. I did the same thing a few years ago until someone noted the same thing, it's an easy mistake to make, but once you figure it out it's all good.

I don't know for how long you've been making music now, but like I said it's a good effort. You just need to learn to balance things out a bit more, but these things will come naturally.

Keep on making music and you'll see yourself improve dramatically. :)

Ohsnap.

Crap, I really need to figure out where to get these monster koto/shamisen samples.

This is a good song on it's own merits (en dat weet je zelf ook wel :P), but I think if you tried to remix DDR MAX 3's "Tsugaru" your japanese samples would really stand out.
